How long do currants last for?
Currants have a very short shelf life if they are not refrigerated. They may, however, survive one to two weeks if properly cooled and refrigerated. They may be frozen for ten to twelve months.
Can you use out of date currants?

During warmer temperatures, infected leaves may drop early.
Why are currants prohibited in some states?
The nutrient-dense berries were outlawed in 1911 because they were suspected of producing a fungus that may harm pine trees. In 2003, several jurisdictions began to withdraw the prohibition as new disease-resistant berries were discovered and new methods to prevent the fungus from destroying wood were developed.
